Noze

Disease detection through smell? That’s right. With every breath, we release a health snapshot right into the air. This is the body’s hidden language, and up until now, it’s gone unnoticed. We're changing that. Inspired by nature and with a boost from NASA, we’ve developed the world’s first fully-integrated diagnostic breathalyzer. It’s capable of decoding these health signals in real-time and at any point-of-care. We’re bringing the sense of smell to the forefront of medicine and welcoming a new era of healthcare.

Are you passionate about unlocking a new era of healthcare? Do you thrive in thinking big, embracing innovation, and pushing boundaries? Are you driven to consistently exceed expectations and deliver extraordinary results? If so, this role could be your perfect fit. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission to elevate human health by unlocking the digital sense of smell.

Here’s exactly who thrives at Noze.

  • Aligned. This is the place for go-getters who are ambitious. We value visionaries who are all in for exponential growth and committed to making a big impact.
  • Collaborative. We believe success is a team sport. Our people thrive on collaboration, embrace feedback, and are committed to continuous improvement.
  • Driven. We're not the kind to wait for directions—we take the initiative and push projects forward. We are high performers who are proactive, own their work, and consistently strive for excellence.

Who you are:

You are a system-level thinker, driven by curiosity and a desire to understand how individual components come together to create a cohesive system. You appreciate the complexity of building intricate systems and are well-versed in the process of integration testing. At Noze, you are motivated to give your best effort every day, fueled by a passion for innovation and excellence. This role requires enthusiasm, commitment, and resilience to tackle complex challenges and contribute to groundbreaking projects.

As a curious self-starter with a strong startup mindset, you are eager to bridge the gap between hardware, data science, and chemistry. You don’t just build to spec—you understand the broader needs of the company, proactively design your own specifications, and source the necessary information to build systems that align with our goals. You thrive on rolling up your sleeves and tackling complex problems head-on, bringing both creativity and critical thinking to your work.

With a solid foundation in mechanical and electronic engineering, combined with a deep understanding of chemistry, you excel at designing and validating systems that are both functional and reliable. You take pride in creating robust, data-driven solutions and are always seeking ways to enhance processes and outcomes. You constantly look for opportunities to innovate and contribute to the success of the team.

If you enjoy being part of a team that tackles a range of technical challenges such as precision dataset generation, lab simulation of environmental conditions, medical condition identification, and rigorous data analysis, this could be the place where you can utilize your experience to make a direct impact on the growth and development of our products.

What you will do:

As part of the Product team at Noze, you will design, develop, validate, and build various prototypes and commercially-ready devices. Our designs are informed by a wide array of knowledge, from mechanical design to hardware, fluid mechanics, chemistry, and physiology. We value data-driven processes, and as a medical company, every aspect of our devices must meet the highest standards.

As the System Test Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating the devices we build. You will design and build test platforms for evaluating both individual components and whole systems. Additionally, you will lead the data collection and evaluation efforts. Your work will include:

  • Wholistically owning the design, validate and build process for test benches. This includes fluid dynamic analysis, and mechanical / electrical / software design.
  • Collaborating closely with the development team to identify, comprehend, and scrutinize complex hardware, software, and system-level requirements.
  • Developing, executing, and documenting detailed performance studies to evaluate the functionality, reliability, and safety of medical devices in accordance with quality and safety standards.
  • Using exploratory test techniques to provide early feedback throughout the design and development process.
  • Designing and developing insightful methods and test tools—both manual and automated—to support efficient and systematic testing.
  • Performing data analysis and participating in design reviews to discuss implementation details and suggest improvements or new features.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including firmware, AI, sensor, and aroma engineering teams, to refine and improve product testing.
  • Supporting the quality control process by establishing standardized testing procedures, conducting testing and inspections, and analyzing test data.
  • Participating in the assessment of potential product hazards and devising appropriate tests to verify mitigation of identified risks.
  • Collaborating with external certified labs to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards for clinical use.
  • Drafting and maintaining design history files in accordance with QMS and regulatory requirements, including design requirements, technical specifications, verification and validation test reports, and risk assessment documentation.

What you need:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, where creativity, flexibility, and a proactive mindset are key.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biomedical / mechanical engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in systems testing, product development, prototyping, or design, ideally within a startup or fast-paced research environment.
  • Experience with dev/eval boards and rapid testing and evaluation of subsystems and parts for the design of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, leveraging advanced characterization techniques (e.g., FTIR spectroscopy, Mass spectrometry).
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and other specialized test equipment
  • Excel in processing and analyzing large datasets using statistical software packages (e.g. Python), with a passion for data visualization tools.
  • Experience working under a quality management system (QMS), drafting technical documentation for a design history file (DHF), and knowledge of QMS standards.
  • Embrace emerging technologies, demonstrate a hunger for continuous learning, and excel at adapting to evolving research objectives and priorities.
  • Independent, self-starter with good interpersonal skills and excellent attention to detail.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge in fluid dynamics and pneumatic systems is a plus
  • Experience testing and validating medical devices
  • Experience performing risk assessments using methods such as failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience in CAD software, specifically Solidworks.
